The only surroundings where neither model may be used is in the water.

Here are the 6 ways how to use the this sports watch for your workouts:

1. Simple Workout

You may set up a simple workout directly on your Garmin 405 Forerunner or Garmin 405CX. For simple workouts you would specifically set goals for time, distance, pace and calories. Both models will store your info until you override them with a new workout plan.

Both the Garmin 405 Forerunner and Garmin 405CX will keep track of your goals while you are working out. Advanced workouts go beyond single goals. They may incorporate dissimilar goals for each step of the workout and for each of the variables (distance, time, calories). You may invent interval workouts based on time or distance for your run and rest portions of the workout.

If you want to create a sophisticated interval workout plan, combine the innovative workout with interval training. In this case you will have to use the Garmin software or the Garmin Training Center.

Works great for Forerunner 305!
There are a few reviews on here that mention using this product with the Forerunner 305, but I wanted to make sure I posted a review to state quintessentially that yes - the Forerunner 305 fits on this utterly (even though the description says Forerunner 405 and Forerunner 50).

I initially looked at the Forerunner 305 Quick-Release kit, but the horror stories of the device popping out of the wristband or bike mount speedily afraid me away. With this mount, you may keep your 305 on it is primary wrist-strap, and feel more secure on your bike as the strap is wrapped around the mount. Garmin will have to abandon that Quick-Release kit and just use this as their mount for all their Forerunners.

One note - you do have to rotate the mount downward to see the 305 screen in an optimal position, but this hasn't affected the GPS reception at all.

It's worth it.
This is a handy accessory, I didn't bother doing the plastic tie-ons, when the watch is buckled around it, it stays on fine (However, I don't leave my bike in public, so I don't have the worry of things getting stolen from the bike).

It's much posing no difficulty for me to see the Garmin on the handle bars as I'm not organized sufficient to bike with one or no hands. (Yes, I'm a beginner, I just started biking in May 2009).

Very Functional
The bike mount works very well. It is simple to switch my Forerunner 305 among my 3 bikes. It holds the GPS secure and viewable without moving around. No Complaints.
