No problem with that. But Maps have not been made for all countries. Philippines is not yet charted. But dont worry, in the next 3-4 years I think the whole world will be. Now, at the most, you can get a GPS receiver like Garmin Colorado, and get a basic world map. In this, you won't get street names and any such details, but you can see positions, basic terrains etc in Philippines. A GPS receiver can receive signal around that world. No problem with that.

This allows many things, from moving maps in your car to dropping bombs on the exact location you want. Disadvantage: The satellite network is vulnerable to attack, destroying a few of them will cripple the system. I've also noticed that it has reduced peoples knowledge of where they are and how to get around without the electronic crutch.
