Very good but not great.
By fellwalker13
I've been using this 24K map to hike in Upstate NY. It does very well in indicating where the trail crosses roads, streams, etc. It's handy and useful. On the other hand, I am accustomed to hiking with those refined and tasteful maps formulated by the Swiss and Austrians for the European Alps. The Garmin Topo map in truth doesn't compare to those in beauty and detail. On my alpine maps I may in truth locate the big boulders and rock outcroppings that I like to sit on at lunch or when I take my break. I treasure my Ordnance Survey maps of Dartmoor that I use for letter-boxing. The Garmin plainly doesn't give that kind of information. It seems sketch-like by comparison. Nevertheless, it is outstanding to have a big chunk of the northeast stored in my gps. It lives in the side pocket of my backpack, and it's ready to go whenever I have a few hours to spare. I did undertake using this map to find a geo-cache listed along one of the trails I use. It put me right on top of it. No complaints there.
The instructions for loading the map into my gps unit from my computer were not very clear, so I gave the folks at Garmin a call. They were terrific. They walked me through the routine and had me up and running before they left the line. That's a major plus.

Software does what it's supposed to.
By S Bouvier
This software does what it's supposed to do, i.e., it works with the Garmin Handheld GPS I bought. The streets and landmarks are accurate, as far as I may tell. And that's what I expected, from what I read from others' reviews of Garmin GPS units and Garmin software. However, it still doesn't do what I actually want it to do, which is to grant me to superimpose hiking trails from either a paper map or a .pdf or .jpg file into the software and then trace the trails into the .gpx file. So, in addition to the cash I shelled out for the GPS unit and the topo software, I also had to buy a third-party software to grant me to do incisively what I wanted. You'd think that a GPS unit intended for hiking would grant it is buyer to do this task, but it doesn't.

Exceeds Expectations
By JohnnyApples
I purchased the Garmin Topo 24K Northeast Map selective info for my Trex Vista HCx. It exceeded my expectations. The map info is elaborated for NH, and covers northeast states. I was impressed that major White mountain trails are within the map data. Detailed little streams are in the maps. Woods roads are for the most share in the maps. Local town trails are often not in the maps, but local town conserved lands are quintessentially shaded in the maps. The road selective information is better than I expected, but, road navigation does not always work (not the purpose). Local attractions (banks, gas, food) are included which amazed me.
