Magellan Roadmate 1470 Widescreen Navigator

For daily navigation the Magellan Roadmate Portable GPS System is just superb. I've been doing a bit of exploration and have concluded that for the money, it's just with regards to the best one around. But prices vary a lot and it's crucial to ascertain you get the best deal. That's why I wrote this article.

Why does the Roadmate Portable represent such a great step forward? GPS engineering has been around for a few years now. It was devised from military spy technology which was held mystery for galore years then in the end freed for civilian use in the early 1990's. Even today whenever I switch on my portable GPS I marvel at the way it finds and then locks on to the satellites and works out incisively where I am - to within when it comes to ten metres. It's genuinely fantastic. But, like the cell phone technology and the Internet, all of this has become commonplace to most of us and we don't even spare a thought for what's going on behind the scenes.

Early models had little screens that were a little difficult to read and a lot of humans found it hard to change their length of focus from road to little screen and back again. Now Magellan have brought out the 5045-LM which has a five inch widescreen that actually does make a difference. There are two parts to this: for a great deal of persons altering their focal length (that is the distance at which hey are focusing their eyes) changes more quickly than others. And it gets slower as you get older. So, not only is the map a good deal having little impact to focus on because it is larger but the extra width gives you a bit more of the map to see so you may often get a better feel for precisely where you are.

The other feature where I think the Roadmate 5045-LM genuinely does address a niggling issue is the method of providing power to the unit. Obviously you want to be competent to remove it from it is screen mount when you've finished your traveling to refrain from it is being stolen but normally you have to fiddle with regards to with the power cable then reconnect it when you next want to use it. This new model has the power supply cable connected to the mounting, so whenever you fit your portable GPS to the screen, the power is connected automatically. This is a much bettered method and makes the unit a whole lot posing no difficulty to use.

5Wonderful evolution of the Magellan line
By Comdet
I've been a Magellan user for assorted years - have owned four of their GPS systems, and always be grateful for how they have bettered their products. This unit is my 5th, and replaces a Magellan 4040. After using it for a while I've convinced in saying this is the best one yet!

3Great screen, and a large total of POIs but needs to catch up to rest of the GPS market
By Mary Jo Sminkey
I've used a number of GPS navigators, specifically Garmin and TomTom units. I am presently using a Garmin Nuvi 265WT and I in general find Garmin to give me the best set of features and performance for the price, altho I've not found their schemes to be exceptionally reliable, my introductory necessitated to be sent for repairs twice and the one I am using presently ofttimes reboots itself randomly, in particular right when I get started it up, and often the sound fades out for no reason. So I'm always on the hunt for something that will work even better. This is my firstborn experience with a Magellan RoadMate model, and I was fascinated to see how it compared. I've only been using it for a few weeks, so I can not report on long-term reliability, but will post follow-up remarks if I run into any difficulties in the future.

5My PT Cruiser will never be lost again!
By PT Cruiser
My former experience with GSP navigators has been in rental cars when journeying a heap of years ago. I've forgotten who made the units, but I thought they were more disturb than they were worth, attempting to figure out how to use them and then dealing with all their weird little quirks.. I do not forget one time up in the Seattle area being on the freeway when the device told me to get off at an exit that was regarding 20 feet away with 3 lanes of traffic amongst me and the exit - no warning prior to that. Then it held repeating over and over again that I had missed the exit. I was ready to pour my Starbucks coffee over the thing and I never wanted a GPS device after that.
