Magellan Roadmate 1700 Navigator Refurbished

The query brought up as the title of this article might have passed your mind at least once, specially when you were staged with the Magellan RoadMate 1700. The 1475T and the 1700 are priced similarly; almost all the features included with the 1475T may be found with 1700 also. Besides, the 1700 is staged with a big 7-inch display screen, while the 1475T comes with a measly 4.7-inch screen. In the following sections, I will illustrate sure finer distinct elements of the Magellan RoadMate 1475T in comparison to the RoadMate 1700.

The Magellan RoadMate 1475T wins over the challenger by including the provision to insert a memory card. In other words, the memory capacity of the 1475T may be augmented manifold by inserting a suitable microSD memory card. How will this feature prove to be beneficial to the rest of us? Well, for starters, you will be competent to carry an increased collection of maps with the device. Many users of the Magellan RoadMate 1700 are complaining regarding the fixed memory capability integrated into the device. Hence, if you are an ardent traveler, then it makes sense to invest on the 1475T.

So, is that it? By including a memory slot, does the 1475 win over the other? Certainly not, because the Magellan RoadMate 1475T comes with another further and added feature - high battery backup time. If you recognise anybody who owns a 1700, they will display their dismay over the battery life of their product. While the 1700 boasts of just 30 minutes battery backup time, with the 1475T, one will be competent to take pleasure in in a literal sense three hours of GPS usage. What are the elements that support in increasing the battery usage time for the RoadMate 1475T? The same will be discussed in the succeeding section.

According to engineering enthusiasts, the essential factor that contributes to the high battery backup time of the Magellan RoadMate 1475T is the littler display screen. At 4.7 inches, you will be capable to gain a perspective regarding the emplacement for a longer time. I do realize that it is fun to experience GPS with a more prominent screen. Sadly, life is unjust and you will have to trade in the battery power for the display screen size. The case of this GPS device is fictitious from high affect plastic. A portable GPS device might have a bad time in your hands. Even if you lose your grip the device will be intact, thanks to the rigid construction.

The accuracy of the GPS meter is high and ranges amid three to five meters. As with all the former models freed by the same company, the Magellan RoadMate 1475T is powered by a lithium ion battery pack. One will be capable to mount the product on their vehicle's dashboard with the set of accessaries provided along with the unit. Powering the unit while it is on the move is also facilitated by the presence of a cigarette-lighter connector. The product retails at $299.

This is a refurbished GPS. Refurbished in general means that the unit has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the navigator back to like new conditions. Some GPS may incorporate cosmetic blemishes.

I am 74 and I find that the 7 in screen is easy to read. The map is real clear and the vocal directions work great. I may likewise type in the name or address of a business or home and it will locate it.

Small GPS screens are poor for vehicle navigation. I have had a 1700 for over 6 months. The 7 in. screen was the syndication point and it has lived up to it's promise. The screen is readable in bright daylight and night. The touchscreen is a huge plus. Old eyes love the big screen size. I have traveled around 7000 miles with this GPS in use, on the road and in cities, alone and with passengers. It got me to the destination (with a little mutual sense applied) and helped me recover from "driving adventures" (read lost).
Audio instructions are good and the GPS's instruction to take the earliest "legal U turn" when off course may be amusing. The identification of the rectify lanes to be in on navigating strange cities on the highway or street level is helpful because of the display size and clear audio instructions.
There are a few flaws. The zoom feature on decelerating down for a turn zooms in well, but may not zoom out. After turning at the on ramp, driving down the Interstate at 75 mph is a little odd with the map displaying the 100 feet in front of and behind the vehicle. Road trips with plans to deviate from the route calculated by the unit are difficult. Placing intermediate points on the route for a long trip is difficult and the navigation selective information is shown for only the nearest intermediate point. The full trip is not viewable. AAA members get the helpful "Tourbook" POIs. Additional POIs/businesses/addresses are necessitated to heighten the capacity to search for nearby restaurants, businesses, lodging, fuel, etc. Some businesses are there while the number of things from which only one can be chosen are absent.
I am a huge fan of this GPS and can't wait for the unit to be returned by Magellan after a software update failure. Magellan has been responsive after a few glitches. The 1700 is a good value and a utile tool.

5I LOVE my GPS
By CamPen143
I have had Tom Tom for numerous years - but always wanted a GPS that I could control the scale. The 1700 will let me pick any scale and keep it showing as long as I want! The Screen is big and the lettering is very readable while driving. The one touch POI along the highways is very utile on trips. I take it with me everywhere.

Only drawback is that I have not found how to obtain modified maps.
